The ECB, the most recently established European institution, also offers a number of precious opportunities to do a stage although only for graduates with a background in economics.

Not easy to be selected but certainly prestigious and financially rewarding (€1,700 per month plus living expenses). But all that glitters is not gold. The aspiring stagiaire needs to submit an application complete with CV, presentation letter and a completed research project.

Applications, stating your preferred start date (the first or fifteenth of each month), should be sent no later than 15 January to:
European Central Bank,
Directorate Personnel 16 03 19,
D-60066 Frankfurt am Main,
Germany.

On average, ECB stagiaires are doctoral students from prestigious universities. Their work for the Directorate General for Research may well get published as one of the ECB's Working Papers.

In sum: if you are an economist and have an excellent knowledge of English then the four month traineeship at the ECB is for you.
